Inductees & Honorees

Kathy (Theisen) Swensen (’81)
Kathy was a three-sport standout at Sycamore, playing basketball, softball, and starring at fullback on Sycamore’s first girls soccer team. An All-Eastern Hills League player in soccer and softball, Kathy earned nine varsity letters and was a member of three championship teams her senior year. A long-time recreation superintendent with the City of Blue Ash, Kathy remains a beloved member of the Sycamore Community.

Blake Kaplan (’99)
Blake was a two-time captain and four-year varsity wrestler for the Aviators. A champion at multiple invitationals, Blake placed 1 st in the GMC his junior and senior years and was All-City and All-Metro as a senior. He finished 4 th at State and was part of Sycamore’s 10th place team. After graduation, Blake walked on at The Ohio State University where in 2004 he was a Division I 184-lb All-American wrestler.

Scott Dennis (’08)
Scott starred in both tennis and basketball as an Aviator. A four-year varsity player in tennis, he played on four GMC Championship teams, was #3 singles champ in 2007, #2 singles champ in 2008, and1 st team All-GMC both years. On the hardcourt, he was 1st team All-GMC, honorable mention All-City and All-Region his senior year. Scott went on to play Division II basketball at Christian Brothers University where he earned 1st team All-GSC and All-American honors in 2012. He later played professionally in Germany.

Ryan Lavigne (’09)
Ryan excelled on the pitch for the Sycamore Varsity Soccer Team for three years. A
two-time captain, team MVP, and 1st -team All-City player, Ryan was 1st team All-GMC all three varsity seasons. As a member of Sycamore’s GMC Championship team in 2008, he was GMC, S.W. Ohio, and Enquirer Player of the Year. He was 1st team S.W. Ohio, All-State, and All-Midwest.

Alanah Sonntag (’09)
One of the top long-distance runners in Sycamore history, Alanah ran four years of both cross country and track for the Lady Aves. In cross country, she was All-Ohio and an Enquirer All-Star all four years and was the Lady Aves’ record holder when she graduated. A district champ and Sycamore record holder in both the 3200m and 1600m events, Alanah was twice All-Ohio and Sycamore’s long-distance MVP all four years. She earned an athletic scholarship to Miami University, and has completed 10 marathons including the Flying Pig, Boston, and the Berlin Marathon.

Grace Louis (’16)
Grace earned 11 varsity letters in three sports during her Sycamore career. An
exemplary leader, she captained both the Lady Ave basketball and track teams as a senior. She was GMC All-Academic in basketball and a regional qualifier in the 1600m in track, but it was on the pitch where she excelled. The leading scorer in the GMC in 2015, and 1st team All-GMC twice, Grace was 1 st team All-City her senior year and earned a soccer scholarship to Northern Illinois University.

Coach Scott Popoff
Scott coached girls cross country and both boys and girls track during his Sycamore coaching career. During his 13 seasons as Head Girls Cross Country coach, Scott could often be seen running right beside his team as they trained for their meets. His love for running was contagious and helped motivate his runners to succeed. His teams were district champs twice and his 1999 Lady Ave team won the Greater Miami Conference. Scott was the GMC Coach of the Year that year.

2008 GMC Championship Boys Soccer Team
The 2008 boys soccer team, coached by Scott Sivering, compiled a 14-2-3 record on its way to a Greater Miami Conference championship and a runner-up finish in district competition.

Dan Segal
Dan Segal received the Spirit of Sycamore Award for his outstanding contributions to the Aviator football program as Football Video Director.
