SAFA's 2018 Distinguished Alumnus:
An Aviator alum who leads one of Forbes' most innovative companies in the world has been named the 2018 Sycamore Distinguished Alumni.1981 graduate Mitch Barns has lived and worked on three continents, overseeing more than 46,000 employees worldwide as the CEO of TV ratings giant Nielsen. But to him, home still means Sycamore. Read Mr. Barns' full bio here!
Mr. Barns will address the Class of 2018 at this year's Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 19th. In addition, he will also be hosted at a banquet reception on Friday, May 18th from 5pm-7pm at The Montgomery Inn in Montgomery. Sycamore Retires Kevin Youkilis’ Number
“Youk” returns for Youth Camp
& Hall of Fame Induction
The number “13” will never be worn again by a Sycamore Aviator baseball player. In honor of Kevin Youkilis, a 1997 Sycamore grad, and former Major League All-Star and World Champion, Sycamore High School retired #13 on April 1, 2017 at an informal dinner and ceremony at the Original Montgomery Inn in Montgomery. Youkilis, who starred at the University of Cincinnati and in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Chicago White Sox, returned to town not only for his jersey retirement and Hall of Fame induction, but also to take part in and co-sponsor the Kevin Youkilis Youth Camp March 31-April 2 at Sycamore High School.

The 2016-17 Dan Henke "SAFA" Scholarship
The Dan Henke SAFA Scholarship is a $1,000 award presented to one Sycamore senior each year. Dan Henke is a leader in our alumni association, and served as a teacher, coach and administrator at Sycamore High School for many years. In the true spirit of the Sycamore Alumni and Friends Association (SAFA), the student receiving this award exemplifies the 'Spirit of Sycamore.' He/she is one who demonstrates strong academic performance, pride in extracurricular involvement, passionate community service and volunteerism, and enthusiastic school spirit. They represent what it means to be an Aviator, both as a leader to the students and staff within the walls of Sycamore, and to the community as a whole. Once selected, this student will assume the responsibility of speaking at our Distinguished Alumni dinner prior to graduation, and also maintaining contact with SAFA after graduation for alumni activities.Applicants should submit:1) A resume or bio of involvement, activities and achievements2) A one-page cover letter of why they feel they deserve this awardPlease send completed documents electronically to: Mr. Corattiyil, Dean of Students, CorattiyilA@SycamoreSchools.org by Friday, March 17th, 2016.

Our 2016 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year:
Beloved by the Sycamore Family through multiple generations, Steve Imhoff was a graduate of the Sycamore High School Class of 1970. He was a standout student-athlete, having his baseball jersey retired, being a member of the 3,000 point club, leading the National Honor Society and graduating 2nd in his class. Following college, returned to SHS to teach and coach. He served us for over 30 years as a mentor and colleague. Following retirement, Steve founded SAFA and initiated our headline event, the "Athletic Hall of Fame" Dinner. He is a tireless volunteer for his community and the Sycamore family, and even takes time out of his day to throw batting practice to high school baseball teams. For all the countless ways he has been a servant to Sycamore, our organization unanimously and enthusiastically wishes to honor him this year.

The 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame banquet was a great success! It was a wonderful night to pay tribute and honor our athletes and the legends of the Sycamore Athletic Department. Thanks to all who attended and help!
Nearly $10,000 Raised for Liz Lothrop by Hoops for Hope
During the month of January 2016, Sycamore High School's Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT) and Student Council teamed up for the "Hoops for Hope" effort to raise money for Liz Lothrop, daughter of SHS Math Teacher Randy Lothrop, as she battles cancer. A check was presented to Liz at the basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016.

Mike Matthews, '02 Grad and Super Bowl XLII Champion, honored with NFL's Golden Football
Mike Matthews, a Class of 2002 Sycamore graduate and a member of the Super Bowl XLII Champion New York Giants, was honored with the NFL's "Golden Football" on Friday, Jan. 29th to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl. The ceremony took place at halftime of the Sycamore vs. Hamilton Men's Basketball game.

Alum Come Home to Speak to Students
Russ Newsom (Class of 2002) and Andrew Mott (Class of 2008) spoke to students at Sycamore High School in November of 2015. Russ worked in the White House from 2004-2007 and Andrew has worked in over 80 countries in seven years. Students were excited to hear from these two accomplished alumni.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, we honored Class of 1978 graduate and current anchor on WKRC-TV Local 12 News Cammy Dierking at the Montgomery Inn. On Thursday, June 4th, Cammy spoke to the graduates of the Class of 2015 at the Cintas Center.

On Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015, SAFA presented its first ever "Dan Henke SAFA Scholarship" to Sycamore High School senior Brittany Murphy. Brittany is a nationally-recognized lacrosse player, a standout student, and volunteers helping the youth in the Sycamore area with their reading skills. The award is named after Dan Henke, who was a teacher, administrator and coach at Sycamore for 30 years (1956-1986) and presented the scholarship to Brittany. He is currently one of our SAFA leaders.
